In the heart of Soho, New York, the Sonnabend Gallery, specialising in contemporary art, exhibits American and European artists’ work.
Having first opened in 1962 in Paris, where it played an important part in promoting American Pop Art in Europe, the Sonnabend Gallery then opened on Madison Avenue in New York in 1970. One year later, the Sonnabend Gallery set up in Soho introducing Americans to European artists, particularly to conceptual art and Arte Povera. Today, the gallery shows the work of well-known artists from the 60s and 70s, like Robert Morris, as well as more recent figures such as Jeff Koons and Rona Pondick.
