The Japanese restaurant Kajitsu is one of the most popular restaurants in the East Village neighbourhood. It is also one of the only restaurants in New York to serve shojin, the Buddhist vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
Kajitsu restaurant serves seasonally adjusted menus. You can try nama fu as part of many of the dishes. It is an important source of protein in shojin cuisine, made from wheat gluten and rice flour. The food is magnificently prepared and presented, worthy of a gastronomic restaurant. Kajitsu also takes particular care with tastes and flavours and likes to apply subtlety in their combination.
