Socrates Sculpture Park is a magnificent open-air sculpture museum.
Created in 1986 by a group of artists led by Italian-American Mark di Suvero, the park is both a public garden and an immense space for creation and exhibition of contemporary sculpture.
Socrates Sculpture Park permanently exhibits sculptural pieces of contemporary artists. A place for creation and a residence for young artists, it is possible to see the warehouses where artists compose their future artworks which will later be exhibited in the park. On the edge of the East River, the Socrates Sculpture Park also offers a beautiful perspective of Manhattan’s Upper East Side skyscrapers.
