Trafalgar Square, this famous square in the heart of London commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar when the Franco-Spanish and British fleets battled in 1805. Located in the square are Nelsons’ Column and the National Gallery.In the centre of Trafalgar Square is Nelson’s Column, erected in 1820 in honour of Admiral Nelson who lost his life during the British victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The bas-reliefs of the pedestal are bronze and the four surrounding pedestals were built to erect statues of other British heroes.
