Located in the 19th arrondissement, the La Villette neighbourhood has been developing ever since 1980. In 135 acres, the La Villette Park is one of Paris’ largest open spaces. The La Villette district has seen many projects come to fruition. The latest is the Philharmonie de Paris. Conceived by Jean Nouvel, this unique building, 52 metres high, has 3 concert halls which can accommodate symphony orchestras, as well as a Museum of Music and numerous activity and teaching rooms.
Also worth seeing: the City of Science and Industry with its numerous different sections devoted to science and technology; the famous Geode with its hemispherical screen; the Zenith music venue; the Centquatre, one of the biggest art spaces in Paris. Finally the Grande Halle de la Villette recently renovated from a slaughterhouse and now a classified heritage building where concerts and trade fairs are held.
