TriBeCa is now the most sought after area, residentially, in New York. Its name derives from TRIangle BElow CAnal Street. This former industrial neighbourhood was essentially made up of abandoned warehouses until Robert de Niro founded the TriBeCa Film Center in 1988.
In 1990, its empty lofts became much prized by artists, then galleries and smart restaurants. Today they are home to many celebrities like Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Adriana Lima.
The neighbourhood is also home to the prestigious Metropolitan College of New York and the New York Law School.
Also worth visiting: the Washington Market Park, the Hudson River Park and Duane Park.
